Blacksmithing Basics: Step Into the Fire
There is something primal about taking a piece of raw steel, heating it until it glows, and shaping it with nothing but fire, hammer, and determination.
If you've ever dreamed of learning the ancient craft of blacksmithing, this is where your journey begins.
Join Jason Smith of HoboForge Survival and Rob of Heavy Crown Forge for an immersive, hands-on day at the anvil as we guide you through the timeless fundamentals of blacksmithing using traditional coal forges.
This isn't a demonstration—you'll be forging with your own hands from the moment the fire is lit.
Throughout the day you'll learn the core skills every blacksmith must master, including:
- Fire management and coal forge operation
- Hammer control and proper striking techniques
- Drawing out steel
- Tapering
- Bending and scrolling
- Twisting
- Punching
- Basic forging techniques used in countless projects
- Tool safety and shop fundamentals
As your confidence grows, you'll transform simple steel into multiple practical and unique forged projects that you'll proudly take home at the end of the course. Every hammer blow builds your skill, and every project teaches a new technique you'll be able to use long after class is over.
Whether you've never swung a hammer or you're looking to build a solid foundation in traditional blacksmithing, this course is designed to give you the knowledge, confidence, and hands-on experience to continue forging on your own.
Expect a full day filled with sparks flying, hot steel ringing against the anvil, great instruction, plenty of laughs, and the satisfaction that comes from creating something with your own hands.
No experience is necessary. We'll provide the forges, anvils, tools, materials, and expert instruction—you simply show up ready to work.
By the end of the day, you'll leave with:
- Multiple hand-forged projects you created yourself
- A solid understanding of traditional coal forge blacksmithing
- The confidence to continue developing your skills
- Memories you'll be talking about for years
The forge is hot. The steel is waiting.
Come learn one of mankind's oldest crafts from two experienced smiths and discover why blacksmithing has captivated people for thousands of years.
Spots are intentionally limited to ensure every student receives plenty of one-on-one instruction.
Reserve your place today and experience the satisfaction of creating something with fire, steel, and your own two hands.
